He tio, he huka, he tōmairangi!
Meltdown!

Yesterday, the children arrived at school to a winter wonderland. There were ice balls, cubes and even an ice hand all around the school. This prompted lots of kōrero about ice and the tamariki were eager to share their stories about what was happening and how the ice was formed and made. Here are some photos of what happened.
This is one of the meltdown sculptures which were dotted around the school.
Here are some questions to ask your tamariki:
1. He aha te kupu Māori for 'ice?'
2. E hanga ana te 'ice' i te aha?
3. He pēhea tōna pāmahana? He maeke? He mahana rānei?

Make some ice with your tamariki and time how long it takes for it to melt.
